Free Letter From Santa: How to Get One (3 Options)
You can get a free letter from Santa in three ways: use a free online generator, write one yourself from a template, or order a paid personal letter. The free options take about a minute to ten minutes, and a printed copy on good paper looks great either way.
The three options at a glance
| Option | Cost | Time | Personal touch | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free online generator | Free | About 1 minute | Name, age, one kind thing, one wish | Quick, last-minute letters |
| Write it yourself from a template | Free or low cost | 10 to 20 minutes | Anything you want to say | Families who like to write |
| Paid personal letter | Paid | Depends on the seller | Written to order with details you supply | A keepsake with extra detail |
Option 1: A free online generator
A generator asks for a few details and builds the letter for you. Our own Free Letter from Santa tool works like this:
- Type your child’s first name. It is the only required field.
- Optionally add an age, something they did well this year and one wish.
- Choose one of four designs.
- Download it as an image or as a printable PDF.
It does not ask you to sign up, and nothing is saved. Everything stays in your browser. Santa mentions the wish but never promises a gift, which keeps expectations realistic.
If you try a different free generator, check three things before you type your child’s name: whether it needs an account, whether the PDF prints at a normal size, and what the privacy policy says about names.
Option 2: Write your own from a template
Writing it yourself lets you add details only you know, like a friend’s name, a new skill or a funny moment from the year. A simple structure works well:
- A warm greeting using your child’s name.
- One specific kind thing they did.
- A line about the North Pole, such as the cold weather or busy workshop.
- A response to their wish that does not promise anything.
- A sign-off and a signature.
Our guide on what to write in a letter from Santa has sample lines by age, and the letter to Santa template page has a printable page for the child’s own letter.
Option 3: A paid personal letter
Some sellers write a letter to order using details you provide, such as your child’s name, age and a good deed. This is the choice if you want a polished keepsake and prefer not to write or format it yourself. Check what the listing includes: file format, paper sizes, delivery time, and whether you can request changes. One example is our Personalized Letter from Santa, which is made to order.
Tips for any option
- Be specific. “You carried the groceries without being asked” feels more real than “you were good.”
- Print on thicker paper. Cardstock or heavy matte paper feels like real mail.
- Fold and seal it. Put your child’s name on an envelope.
- Keep the letters. Write the year on the back and store them together.
Which should you pick?
Choose the generator if you want it done in a minute. Choose a template if you enjoy writing. Choose a paid letter if you want more detail without the work. All three give children the same thing: a moment of magic that comes from you.

Frequently asked questions
Can I get a free letter from Santa without signing up?
Yes. Some free online tools let you type a first name, pick a design and download the letter without creating an account. The TinyMapleCo Free Letter from Santa tool works this way and does not save names.
Is a free letter from Santa printable?
Usually yes. Look for a PDF download in US Letter or A4 size. Image files also print well if the resolution is high enough, but a PDF is safest.
When should a letter from Santa arrive?
Families choose different moments: early December, Christmas Eve, or Christmas morning beside the cookie plate. Pick the one that fits your own tradition.
