Christmas Printables for Kindergarten: What to Print and What Each One Teaches

By Adil at TinyMapleCo ·

For kindergarten, print a small mix of letter tracing, beginning sounds, simple words, counting and cutting. Each type builds a different skill, so choose based on what your child needs most. You do not need a huge stack; a few pages a day is enough.

What each printable teaches

Printable Skill it builds Good starting point
Letter tracing Pencil control and letter shapes Tracing uppercase, then lowercase
Beginning sounds Matching sounds to letters Say each picture out loud first
CVC words Blending three sounds Cat, sun, pig, mop
Sight words Reading common words quickly 3 to 5 words per week
Counting and ten frames Number sense up to 10 Use real objects beside the page
Number tracing 1–20 Number writing Count aloud while tracing
Addition within 10 Early math facts Use counters first
Cutting practice Hand strength and scissor control Lines, then curves
Mazes Planning and pencil control Trace with a finger first

A short weekly plan

  1. Monday: Letter tracing and one sound page.
  2. Tuesday: Counting with a ten frame, using buttons or small pom-poms.
  3. Wednesday: CVC words, saying each one out loud.
  4. Thursday: Cutting and gluing, then a maze for a break.
  5. Friday: Review. Repeat the page your child liked best.

Adjust it to your child’s pace. If something feels hard, stop and come back in a few days.

Tips for a smoother session

  • Keep sessions short. Around 10 to 15 minutes works for most 5 and 6 year olds.
  • Sit beside them. Read directions aloud at first.
  • Use real objects. Counters, blocks or snacks make numbers concrete.
  • Praise effort. “You kept trying” is better than “perfect.”
  • Pick a pencil that fits. A short, thick pencil is easier for small hands.

If your child is 3 or 4

Preschoolers are usually ready for tracing lines, matching, cutting and counting to 10. Skip the sight words and addition until they are ready. Our Christmas Worksheets for Preschool + Kindergarten include both a Preschool (3–4) level and a Kindergarten (5–6) level, with a 2-page answer key, so you can start at the right level. You can also see the kindergarten Christmas worksheets guide for more detail.

When to skip a worksheet

If a child is tired, upset or finds a page too hard, put it away. Try a hands-on activity instead, like making numbers from playdough. Worksheets are one tool, not the whole lesson.

Frequently asked questions

How many worksheets should a kindergartener do in a day?

One to three short pages is plenty, around 10 to 20 minutes in total. Mix a writing page with a hands-on one, like cutting or counting with objects.

Are Christmas worksheets good for learning?

They can be, when the page practices a real skill such as counting, letter formation or sounds. The holiday theme mostly helps children stay interested.

What is a CVC word?

A consonant-vowel-consonant word, like cat, sun or pig. Children learn to blend three sounds into a word.
