Best Christmas Activities by Age: 2-3, 4-5, 6-8 and 9-10

By Adil at TinyMapleCo ·

The best Christmas activity depends on age: toddlers like sensory play and stickers, preschoolers like crafts and simple games, and older kids enjoy puzzles, baking and making gifts. The table below gives a quick match, and each section has ideas you can use right away.

Quick guide

Age Attention span (rough) Good fits Watch for
2–3 5–10 minutes Stickers, big crayons, sensory bin, ornament sorting Small parts, tasting craft supplies
4–5 10–20 minutes Simple crafts, scissor practice, bingo, letters to Santa Frustration with fiddly steps
6–8 20–30 minutes Baking, scavenger hunts, word searches, card making Reading level of directions
9–10 30+ minutes Gift making, trivia, mystery games, helping younger siblings Feeling too old for “baby” activities

Ages 2–3

  • Sticker scenes. Give a sheet of paper and holiday stickers.
  • Ornament sort. Sort unbreakable ornaments by color into bowls.
  • Sensory bin. Dry rice or pasta with scoops, with an adult beside them.
  • Playdough trees. Stick pom-poms into a green playdough tree. Skip tiny beads.

Keep everything big and stay close. Small pieces are a choking risk for children under 3.

Ages 4–5

  • Snowflake cutting. Fold paper and let them snip.
  • Christmas bingo. Picture boards work before reading.
  • Letter to Santa. Draw, dictate and trace their name.
  • Countdown paper chain. Tear off one link a day.

Ages 6–8

  • Cookie decorating. Let them design. Check for allergies first.
  • Scavenger hunt. Rhyming clues around the house.
  • Card making. Make cards for relatives and neighbors.
  • Advent cards. One kind or fun idea per day. Our Advent Activity Cards work for ages 3 to 8.

Ages 9–10

  • Handmade gifts. Bookmarks, beaded keychains or a recipe book.
  • Trivia night. They can write questions for the family.
  • Mystery game. Create clues for younger kids to solve.
  • Help with the tradition. Let them run the advent drawer or wrap gifts.

Mixed ages at home

  1. Pick one core activity everyone can join, like baking or a hunt.
  2. Give each child a role that matches their level.
  3. Let older kids “teach” younger ones.
  4. Have a quiet backup, such as coloring, for the youngest.

Our Christmas Mega Bundle covers ages 2 to 10 if you want printable options for different ages in one place, and the Christmas games for kids guide lists more group ideas.
